Detroit Jews on the Move: Jewish Patterns of Migration in the 20th Century
Professor Deborah Dash Moore, the Frederick G. L. Huetwell Professor of History and Professor of Judaic Studies at the University of Michigan will present
Detroit Jews on the Move.
Since arriving in the city of Detroit in the early 20th century, Detroit Jews have repeatedly moved, rarely staying in one neighborhood for more than a generation. But where they moved--and when--depended in part on other residents in Detroit, both Black and White. This talk discusses Jewish patterns of movement into, around, and out of the city and explores reasons for moving, ranging from racism and antisemitism to social mobility and generational change.
